  • Telelisting has an offering directed at Real Estate professionals that looks very attractive, but read their warning: "in order to fully respect the DNCL rules you have to register with the government of Canada as a telemarketer and subscribe ...". In other words, you can access their database, but you still have to pay the government fees on top of the Telelisting subscription.
    Is it their problem or yours if they share Do Not Call List data with you when you do not have a subscription to the Do Not Call List for the area code you are referencing? How can you prove due diligence if you are avoiding fees by not subscribing?
  • If you are being offered a service that includes mapping and a phone book, and it has a demo you can try, then check the database of numbers and addresses for accuracy. At least one customer joined Call Tracker when they found the competing service they were considering was based on records that were dated and unreliable.
  • There are now any number of US organisations that will 'scrub' your contact lists for a monthly fee and produce boilerplate documentation and procedures for your organisation. For the most part these are quite mature products that were developed for the US market and have had time to be honed by experience to suit the US regulatory situation. They ought to deal with the need for a company Do Not Call List and probably combine the scrubbing, but it would be wise to check. The American system differs a bit from the Candian one, and the differences may matter, so make sure it has been modified to cope.
  • There is a list scrubber of American origin for only $75, but again you need your own Do Not Call List subscription and it won't help coordinate your office Do Not Call List or client lists. Will it work in Canada? Probably, but there is a difference between working and offering adequate legal protection. If you try it, perhaps you will let us know what you discover ...
